[19:34] [+Solarchos] The Federation now includes two new worlds - Centaurus and Estazenin. We discovered them a little over a year ago when the Gurhal system was raided by a previous unknown alien race.

[19:36] [+Solarchos] The Craver are, by far, one of the most unsettling species I've ever encountered. Insect-like but intelligent. What made them so disturbing was the fact that they could digest any organic material they ate, and they ate ANYTHING plant or animal-based.

[19:38] [+David O'Cain] I see.
[19:39] [+David O'Cain] Are they just as bad or worse than the Imperium?
[19:40] [+Solarchos] They had space-faring technology, but they never figured out how to maintain any kind of ecological balance. They stripped their own homeworld bare of all other life and spread outwards to harvest more food for their hives.
[19:40] [+Solarchos] For them, feeding the hives was everything. Concepts like "peace", "trade", and "treaty" were nonexistent.
[19:42] [+David O'Cain] Geez.
[19:43] [+Solarchos] Centaurus is a world where the inhabitants are already dealing with a horrible ecological disaster of their own, and attempting to recover from an equally devastating war from over a hundred years ago.
[19:44] [+Solarchos] Estazenin's inhabitants weren't in much better shape. They're still trying to rebuild from a nuclear war that created a mutant swarm.
[19:44] [+Solarchos] Then the Cravers came and started harvesting everything in sight.
[19:46] [+David O'Cain] Good lord. So, what'd you end up doing to stop'em?
[19:46] [+Solarchos] Simple. We declared all-out war with them.
[19:48] [+David O'Cain] About the only thing that could be done.
[19:48] [+Solarchos] The Cravers tried to attack Gurhal, but were driven back. When we discovered Centaurus and Estazenin, we concentrated on disabling the Craver hive-carriers and boarded them, then we joined forces with the peoples of both worlds and helped them exterminate the Cravers on the ground.
[19:49] [+David O'Cain] Groovy.
[19:50] [+Solarchos] However, it wasn't easy. The Cravers were as persistent as they were ugly.
[19:51] [+David O'Cain] Betcha they weren't just ugly, but FUGLY.
[19:53] [+Solarchos] They were the Cravers, and everything else, ourselves included, were just food to them.
[19:53] [+Solarchos] Heh.
[19:53] [+Solarchos] They WERE the Cravers. Past tense.

[19:57] [+Solarchos] After we pushed them back, we had to follow them back to their inhabited worlds and began satutation nuclear bombardment on EVERY single world they inhabited.

[20:00] [+Solarchos] It took almost six months to finally track down the last of them, and another three months before we felt confident enough to declare the war effectively over.

[20:04] [+Solarchos] The Centaurians and the Estazenin are both relatively advanced, a little moreso than Terra, but neither species had any kind of interplanetary capability.

[20:09] [+Solarchos] That means they had no way to set up orbital defenses. No combat spacecraft. No weapons platforms. Any warship in orbit effectively had an overwhelming advantage.

[20:12] [+Solarchos] The Cravers would just fire missiles at any stronghold on the surface, then send in ground troops to eliminate any remaining resistance.
[20:13] [+Solarchos] And there were no defenses on the ground with a range long enough to shoot back.

[20:18] [+Solarchos] However, we were able to counter that advantage of theirs.
[20:18] [+Solarchos] It took a while though. Those things were absolutely vicious. But extermination was the only option they gave us.

[20:19] [+Solarchos] The Cravers didn't want to negotiate, withdraw, or compromise. After all, would you "compromise" with the cow you intend to use for steaks and hamburger meat?

[20:31] [+Solarchos] Exactly. They didn't see any other life-form as sentient or worth regarding as an equal.
[20:32] [+Solarchos] Races like them are the kinds of things that actually support the Imperium's extreme xenophobia. ~__~;
